Language Objectives:
Students will request a job application from an employer.
Students will fill out the job application with accurate information.
Students will discuss important interview questions and learn appropriate responses
Students participate in “mock interviews” to learn proper interview skills

Execution:
Set up the classroom with a table at the front or to the side. Hang a sign on the table with the name of a business (McDonalds, Walmart, Panther Enterprises, etc.). Have applications available for that business at your table. The teacher or a student should represent the employer/manager of the business. Students will come to your "business" one at a time and request an application. The proper way for the student to request is, "Hello, My name is _. I am interested in working for _. May I have an application to fill out?" Once the student has the application, he/she should return to his/her desk and fill out the application as accurately as possible. Students may need help with this step if this is their first time as they may not know their SS#, references, etc. Once the application is done, the student should return to the "business" to return the application. At this point the employer will accept the application and set up an interview time (during that class period or the next day). The student should return to his/her desk and begin working on another assignment. This continues with each student until all students have an appointment time and are working on another assignment.
The next step is the student's responsibility. If the appointment time is during the same class period, the student should be aware of the time while working on the other assignment. When it is time for the student's interview, the student will stop what he/she is doing and go to the "business" for his/her interview. Upon arrival the student should re-introduce himself/herself to the employer and state the reason for being there. (Ex. "Hello, my name is __. I turned in an application last week and am here for my interview.)
The interview would proceed with prepared interview questions. It is best to introduce the students to these questions beforehand so they will know how to properly respond. The teacher/employer should critique the student on appearance, articulation, eye contact, etc and give feedback on what the student did well and areas that need improvement.
